JARS OF CLAY WINNERS AT 2007 GMA DOVE AWARDS
“GOOD MONSTERS” NAMED ROCK/CONTEMPORARY ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Band Honored With Prestigious “President’s Volunteer Service Award”
The 38th Annual GMA Dove Awards were handed out last night by the Gospel Music Association in a variety of genres, with acclaimed band Jars of Clay receiving two statues. One in the Rock/Contemporary Album category for its Good Monsters project, and the other in the Short Form Music Video of the Year category for the video to its hit song, “Work.” The band also was honored by being asked to present Songwriter and Producer of the Year awards. To date, the band has collected nine Dove Awards.
The GMA Dove Awards were held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The show will be televised in national syndication in May.
In addition to making great music, Jars of Clay is concerned with the needs in Africa. Compelled to make a difference, members Dan Haseltine, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark and Charlie Lowell founded the Blood:Water Mission in early 2002. The first effort of this non-profit was the “1000 Wells Project” with a goal of raising funds to build, rebuild and repair 1000 wells in urban and rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa. To date, 187 wells have been constructed bringing clean water to more than 140,000 people. Earlier this week, band members were honored for this work, by Michael W. Smith, on behalf of President George W. Bush, with a “President’s Volunteer Service Award.”
Dan Haseltine, Jars’ lead vocalist, notes, “The needs of Africa are indeed immense, but not insurmountable. Through the Blood:Water Mission, and other organizations like it, we are making a difference. We’re very humbled by this honor, but want to shine the spotlight on the unsung heroes on the ground in Africa providing medical assistance and clean water to the thousands in need.”
Multi-Platinum and three time GRAMMY Award winning band Jars of Clay launched its career with its hit, “Flood,” in 1995. Since then, it’s amassed more than six million in career sales (5 -Gold, 2 platinum and 1 double platinum certification), an American Music Award nod, 17 No.1 radio hits, and numerous film credits and BMI honors for songwriting and performing.
