Google, Yahoo - Adsense, YPN and other info

Over the past 2 days CrimsonLight has had the chance to speak with a Yahoo! Publisher Network employee about what is coming up for YPN.  The news is pretty exciting, and will lead to an increase for bloggers that use YPN, and also will help us in getting paid quicker.  From looking around I also see Yahoo trying to integrate more features such as maps, yahoo answers and other things into blogging websites.  So we will have to wait and see how they do this in terms of revenue.  Our communication with Ray from Yahoo went like this:

Ray Devlin, Customer Solutions, Yahoo! Publisher Network says:

“There are new developments on the horizon for the Yahoo! Publisher Network. Points such as shortening the revenue verification period and increased relevance are ongoing improvements. Our publishers have also requested such additions as direct deposit as a form of payment. While we hope to have this available soon, there has been no release date indicated for this.”

With this said, Yahoo! Publisher Network is rapidly upgrading their system to not only play catch up, but to advance past the competition.  Yahoo has had troubles with relevancy when compared to Google’s Adsense, but as time goes by the relevance of the ads is improving greatly.

Also the time to get paid can seem like a long time in between periods if you miss the $100 cut off.  For instance if you make $95 in December, you missed the cutoff, but in January you go above the $100 mark, you will get paid mid March for the money in December.  To most that seems like a long time, and Yahoo is working at speeding the process up.

Direct Deposit is nice but for me not a make or break sort of deal, of course this speeds up the time once again, so that will be nice for many.  Also for those of us USA bloggers (which is what YPN requires at this time), that live outside of the USA, this is a nice feature.  For instance I have recently moved to Canada, yet am a US based site so I am able to use Yahoo, since that is where the http://crimsonlight/ blogging network is from.  Yet, by the time my check goes to my home in the USA, and gets to me it can take over a month.  So tack that on to the mid March day and I am well into April before I get the money earned in December!  Wow!  That is not good for most, so direct deposit will help.

The main thing here is the increased relevancy of ads.  This will make all of us more money as we will generate more clicks.  I asked about the payouts being lower than in the past, but there was no forthcoming answer on that one, and of course did not expect one.
