Google Space Test Flies at Heathrow Airport

The pilot program is believed to be the first public test that will provide data on Google’s plans to establish public and free offerings of its products.

Travelers at London’s Heathrow Airport have been using a free pilot program called Google Space. Beginning last Thursday, travelers have been able to use ten laptops to try out six Google programs: Google Earth, Google Local, Google Toolbar, Froogle, Google Mobile, Google Mail, and Picasa.

Also available to the fliers, is general web surfing. This test for Google, may be a glimpse into the future.

Who’s Afraid of Google? Everyone.

It seems no one is safe: Google is doing Wi-Fi; Google is searching inside books; Google has a plan for ecommerce.

Of course, Google has always wanted to be more than a search engine. Even in the early days, its ultimate goal was extravagant: to organize the world’s information. High-minded as that sounds, Google’s ever-expanding agenda has put it on a collision course with nearly every company in the information technology industry: Amazon.com, Comcast, eBay, Yahoo!, even Microsoft.
