Gospel Music Association Recognizes Rock Band Fresh Off GRAMMY Win

THIRD DAY TAKES HOME 24th DOVE AWARD FOR POP/CONTEMPORARY RECORDED SONG AT GOSPEL MUSIC AWARDSNominations were announced yesterday for the 38th Gospel Music Association Dove Awards with multi-million-selling, GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning rock band Third Day receiving another handful of nods, including one in the prestigious Artist of the Year category.

The Atlanta-based rock band was also recognized for its smash hit “Cry Out to Jesus,” written by lead singer Mac Powell, with a nomination in the Song of the Year category. In the newly added Dove category of Christmas Album, Third Day was acknowledged with a nod for Christmas Offerings, its very first Christmas worship album.

Band members Mac Powell, Tai Anderson, Brad Avery, David Carr, and Mark Lee each receive nominations as artists and producers on the Christmas project. Adding in his nod for writing “Cry Out to Jesus,” Mac Powell receives four total nominations, with each of the other band members individually receiving three.

The band is fresh off its third GRAMMY win for the RIAA Gold certified Wherever You Are (11/1/05) in the Pop Contemporary Gospel Album category. From its seven previous nods, the band has been awarded GRAMMYs for both Wire (5/4/2004) and Come Together (10/17/01), each RIAA Certified Gold.

2007 finds Third Day releasing two milestone projects, Chronology, Volume One (1996-2000) which drops March 27, followed by Chronology, Volume Two which hits retail, August 7.

Over the past decade, Third Day has amassed 24 No.1 radio singles and sold almost six million albums, with RIAA certifications including one Platinum record, one Platinum DVD, and six Gold records. The band has garnered 24 career Dove Awards, three GRAMMY Awards (from nine previous nominations), two consecutive American Music Award nods, multiple ASCAP honors, and has developed an historic partnership with Chevrolet. Third Day has maintained a touring record second-to-none by playing for audiences reaching into the millions. In addition to these many accolades, the band is most proud of its humanitarian efforts that include raising nearly $200,000 for the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and encouraging over 15,000 fans to sponsor children across the globe through the work of World Vision.
